Frequently Asked Questions
What is "Behind the Addiction"
Behind the Addiction is a YouTube series featuring the stories of those dealing with or affected by addiction as well as professionals in the fields of substance abuse.
Why did you choose the name, "Behind the Addiction"?
To put it simply, we chose this name due to the stigmas that addicts carry with them. People often see the addiction, rather than the individual.
Behind the addiction, is always a real human being.
Do you pay your guests to appear on video and share their stories?
Not typically, no.
There are some exceptions to this rule, most notably for celebrity appearances.
What is the interview process like?
Once the equipment is set up, we sit and talk with our guests a little bit prior to officially beginning the interview. This once again is to establish a comfortable and relaxed vibe for the duration of filming.
Are you willing to travel for an interview?
Yes, absolutely — however, only when we are financially able to do so.
Are you willing to do Zoom interviews?
Yes, while it’s not our first choice on presenting your stories, we are also aware that other options aren’t always viable.
Can I be a moderator for your page / group?
We are not currently looking for additional moderators, but when this changes we will make a post seeking applications.
It must be noted that we will not accept any moderators that are not in recovery or seeking sobriety.
Why do you only let those seeking sobriety or those in recovery moderate your pages / groups?
We do this because it gives them an opportunity to actively engage in their own sobriety by keeping them involved in a positive environment and community that deals with addiction.
I am not an addict but I have lost someone close to me to addiction / or am currently close to someone struggling, would you be willing to talk with me?
Perhaps, these types of stories are important too. If you have lost a loved one to addiction, We would love to talk to you.
However, if the individual is alive they likely would not appreciate their business being put out there or for there to be any way to find out who they are. We don’t want our videos to be used in any sort of potentially damaging pseudo intervention.
Hypothetically if something like this were to happen, no names would be allowed, your face would not be shown, and your voice potentially distorted to retain anonymity.
I am an active addict. Would you be willing to interview me?
Yes. Let’s talk!
I am addicted to food / sex / etc. -- can I be interviewed?
Of course. It is not our place to question your struggles, only to better understand them.
I don't want to be interviewed, are you willing to share my story with text / photos?
Absolutely!
Can you help me? I need help!
We are not qualified to help you in a professional capacity, but we have a list of resources to help point you in the right direction. If you are in immediate danger or feel unable to keep yourself safe, please call 911.
